Kettering Walkers co-ordinator, Elspeth Haughie, has provided a brief report on the Community BBQ and Bushfire Appeal findraiser held on Australia Day.

For the second year a community Australia Day BBQ was held at the Rotary Shelter at Kettering Oval.

The event was attended by  representation from Kettering Walkers, Kettering Community Association, Friends of Kettering and many friends and neighbours.

A Red Cross Bushfire appeal was run in conjunction with this communty event and the tins rattled by my New Zealand granchildren who also gave out Australian flags!

It was a most successful event  with lots of community spirit and a special toast to local resident Sue Hoyle for receiving an Order of Australia Medal.

We all look forward to a happy year ahead and enjoying and working to continue to make Kettering a special place to live.
