With the upcoming 50 year reunion for the Kettering Football Club’s premiership win, organisers are asking other sporting clubs from the same year to get in contact.
An article printed in 1964 in The Hobart Mercury highlights Kettering’s success not only in the Southern Country Football Premiership against Bothwell, but also other great sporting achievements of the day. The article describes the success as “a grand slam of sporting achievements for the Channel Township”.
Also in that year, Kettering teams held the pennants for A Grade cricket, tennis and badminton, with the Swans being joint holders of the basketball title and the Bluebirds winning the softball premiership. The Tamar Class Yachts also won the State Premiership that year and in rifle shooting, J.R. Rex is listed as being the North West Bay Club champion for the past three years.
Those organising the event would also like to hear from anyone associated with the club/s, such as family members, supporters and those interested in joining the reunion celebrations. The reunion lunch will be held on March, 16 at the Oyster Cove Inn.
For further information contact Rowland Proctor on 6267 4624, Kevin Palmer on 6243 8311, Lin Thompson on 6267 4533 or visit the club’s page on Facebook.
