Wondering what the large solar panels on the roof of the Kettering Community hall are all about? Well they are the work of the Kettering Cricket Club which was a successful recipient in the first round of Climate Connect Fund grants from the State Government’s Climate Change Office.
The club's Kettering Energy Efficiency Project (KEEP), is scheduled for completion in November. Renewable energy technologies funded by KEEP also include an anemometer to assess the suitability of the site for wind power, a power meter display and a portable LED scoreboard. Kingborough Council, as part of its Climate Change Strategy, has funded solar hot water via evacuated tubes for the club shower room and hall bathroom and kitchen.

As part of the project a series of four information sessions will be delivered at the Kettering Community Hall. Commencing 7.30pm on 8 July, Minister for Sustainable Transport and Alternative Energy, Nick McKim will launch the Home Energy Audit Toolkit (HEAT). These kits will will be available for households to borrow free of charge for up to two weeks and contain instructions, information sheets and suggestions for easy, cost effective, hints to help save 25% of household power bills. Andrew Doube, a Home Assessor with Sustainable Living Tasmania, will speak on a range of practical, inexpensive and easy-to-implement energy saving ideas.

On 15 July Dr John Todd, former Coordinator of Environmental Studies at the University of Tasmania and now Director of Eco-Energy Options will make practical suggestions to get the most out of home heating and help in choosing the best heating option for your home.
